Over 120 students were involved in a collaboration competition at Southport College last week. Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Art &Design, Painting & Decorating, Hospitality & Catering and Performing Arts courses all joined forces to host a dazzling evening of fashion and entertainment.

Hospitality students welcomed visitors to the event with a range of canapés they had produced in the College’s training restaurant, Clouds. The curtain dropped to introduce the Performing Arts student’s dance routine before the first set of models took to the catwalk. The stage had been designed and assembled by Painting and Decorating students.

The theme of the show was Metamorphosis and the beauty students’ models sported a variety of costumes and make up effects, including a fantastic Pinocchio with wood-effect skin, which reflected the theme.

Hot on the heels of the Beauty students showcase was the collaboration between Art & Design students and Hairdressing students. This collaboration saw models sporting stunning hairstyles and outfits which hand made by the Art & Design students. The winning outfit and hair combination was a contemporary piece which combined traditional business fashion with a splash of colour and an intricate hair design.

The judges retired to consider their winners and were made up of a panel of industry representatives including a Hollyoaks makeup artist and account managers from DECLÉOR, Dior, Estée Lauder and L’Oréal. They had the unenviable task of choosing between such high quality work and deliberated while a final performance took place by the Performing Arts students.

Sue Dawe, Curriculum Leader for Hairdressing and Event Director said “It was truly wonderful to see such collaboration taking place and the standard of work from all the students was breath-taking. The judges from industry kindly gave their time up and we are extremely grateful to them and our very generous sponsors. We are already planning next year’s event which we hope to have even more students involved in!”

The results for each category were as follows:

Beauty Therapy: 1st Katy Maybury 2nd Amy Rawcliffe 3rd Rachel Johnson 4th Vicky Mawdsley
