David Gest found dead in hotel room

Reality TV star and music producer David Gest has been found dead in a London hotel room. 

His friend Imad Handi announced the news in a statement saying: “David was a natural star and a genuine celebrity. I will miss his desperately.”

Former I’m A Celebrity… star Gest was once married to Liza Minnelli and was also known for being a close friend of the late Michael Jackson.

Gest was due to tour the United Kingdom in a musical show called David Gest Is Not Dead, But Alive With Soul, starting in York on July 1.

David Gest was in Southport in 2008 visiting his cousin Freda who owns a “sausage factory”.

David went walkabouts in the town centre visiting different establishments (without drinking) chatting to the public, having photographs taken and signing autographs along the way.

He visited the Mason Arms, strolled along Lord Street to Scarisbrick Hotel mixing with drinkers then walked along the Promenade to the Pier, stopped at the Sandgrounder Fish & Chip shop, Nevill Street where he bought a couple of ice creams for children then went for a meal to Owens Bar with local businessman John Ball and friends.

American-born David Gest is most famous for being childhood friends with ‘The Jackson 5’, having been married to Liza Minelli for a year and a half and a resident of the 2006 “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here”.

David met a group of teenagers and bought them ice creams

This was the first time David had visited Southport and he was very impressed with Lord Street.
