Dangerous out of date Parking Meters

ots - pay and display

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to you to see if anyone else has encountered the same problems with Southport’s Pay and Display meters. The meters do not accept new twenty, ten or five pence coins. The council must be generating enough profits from the huge team of Parking wardens so why are they not being maintained?

In January I was shopping with my son and I allowed him to put the tarriff (pre 2012 coins) into the meter and he cut his hand on a rusty parking meter which is located on West Street resulting in a 40 minute journey to our local children’s hospital ‘Ormskirk’.

I now choose to use ‘Liverpool One’ for a better shopping experience, its no wonder we have no decent shops on Lord Street. I feel the council are just taking and not giving value for money.

I was a proud resident of Southport but just feel let down by Sefton Council and wanting to know if anyone feels the same?

Roy Burgess (Southport resident)
