Dambusters To Fly At Southport Air Show 2013 July 25th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Dambusters To Fly At Air Show Aircraft seen as part of the flypast to mark the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raids will fly at this year’s Southport Air Show. A Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane will all take to the skies as part of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at the annual Southport Air Show taking place on September 14/15. The aircraft were part of a celebration held in May marking the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raids when bombs were dropped on German dams and flooded the Ruhr valley. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will take place on both days at this year’s show and compliments the busy military and civilian aircraft displays already confirmed. The Red Arrows will appear on Saturday, September 14, while the iconic Vulcan will take to the skies the following day (Sunday, September 15). Other aircraft appearing over the two days includes the Typhoon, Merlin, Sea King, The Blades, Sabre, Lynx AH7 and many many more. As well as the fantastic air displays there is even more this year taking place on the ground. The RAF, Army and Navy will all have a presence along with bungee trampolines, flight simulators, mini tanks and military vehicle displays on the beach. Within the Air Show village there will be trade stalls, inflatable water walkers, a circus workshop and a static display from the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team. An aviation marquee will host a number of art displays including the Northern Brickwork Association Lego models. New for 2013 is a stage hosting a selection of live bands and the Airborne Academy, wowing visitors with their free running skills. Cllr Ian Maher, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Yet again the Southport Air Show promises to be a superb event as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raids. “Already there is much hype surrounding the show and I hope as many people as possible head to Southport beach for two days of amazing aircraft and ground displays. “With so much on throughout the whole day, it is advisable to get to the site early and enjoy something for the whole family.” View further information about the Southport Air Show, which takes place on September 14/15.
