North West firms urged to explore world of opportunities on their doorstep

The countdown is on for Export Week – and with just a week to go time is running out for companies to sign up to explore a world of opportunities right on their doorstep.

Following the success of Export Week in May, which focused on High Growth Markets, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has teamed up with a host of partners and business organisations to run another series of free events during the week of November 11 – 15 aimed at getting businesses to either start exporting or to expand their export activity.

So far more than 200 businesses have signed up to take advantage of these opportunities and learn more about growing their overseas trade – but there are still spaces available for companies who act quickly.

In the North West the schedule includes a series of roadshows focusing on ‘Export Essentials’ – everything new exporters need to know before embarking on their export journey.

Export Essentials will cover everything from presentations on logistics, banking, intellectual property and market research to hearing from currently successful exporting businesses, and there will be plenty of time for networking and one-to-one advice from a team of international trade experts.

There will also be an overseas trade conference at Salford Reds Stadium in Greater Manchester, and a ‘Let’s Get Exporting’ event in Preston which will include case studies from successful companies and a keynote speech from renowned HSBC economist Mark Beresford-Smith.

Clive Drinkwater, Regional Director for UK Trade & Investment in the North West, said:

“We were delighted with the support for our previous Export Week initiatives and we’ve already signed up more than 200 companies to take part in next week’s events, but there’s still time for others to register and I’m keen to welcome as many as possible.

“I hope the events taking place during Export Week will encourage even more businesses and entrepreneurs to start trading abroad. We are providing free sessions throughout the week on how exports can help businesses to grow, with the Export Essentials workshops providing an excellent opportunity for new exporters to learn as much as they can at a one-stop shop.

“Earlier this year I launched a challenge to find 1000 new exporters in the North West.  We are already well on our way to achieving this objective and I am sure that Export Week will boost the region’s progress. Virtually any company can export its products and services – from one-man operations to large corporations employing hundreds – and I would urge anybody interested in exporting to come along to one of our events next week and see how UKTI can help.”
