Cork Jackets and Drill at The Atkinson Southport 19th December 7.30pm

The Atkinson in Southport is the venue for a presentation of Corkjackets and Drill and tells the story through new original songs and narration, of the 1886 Southport Lifeboat Disaster – A disaster which claimed the lives of the crew of the St Anne’s lifeboat and almost all of the Southport lifeboat.

The songs and script are by Southport based playwright, Len Pentin, whose playwriting work has been performed at Liverpool’s top theatres, BBC Radio Merseyside and the London fringe.

The musical performance is skilfully steered through its folk roots by Chris and Siobhan Nelson, Clive Pownceby, Pete Rimmer and Len Pentin, together with narration by actor Colin Wayte

Corkjackets and Drill tells how the dreadfully impoverished fishermen of the northern towns of Southport, Lytham and St Anne’s bravely gave battle one terrible storm-ridden December night in 1886, in an attempt to save the crew of the German Ship The Mexico, in distress off Southport sands.

Tickets £10(£8 concessions) from The Atkinson Box Office 01704 533333
