Take a break from the stresses of the season and get outdoors! Visitors to WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre will be treated to a winter wonderland this year, with more opportunities to get up-close to wetland wildlife, get over the festive indulgence and spend time together outdoors. What better way to kick off those healthy New Year’s resolutions?! The festive season has to be one of the best times of year to visit Martin Mere Wetland Centre. As well as all the usual festive touches, the centre and reserve is a wildlife haven, teeming with beautiful and unusual birds that have migrated here from colder countries. Highlights include winter bird feeds, walks and talks, ‘guide in a hide’ sessions and Christmas crafting sessions, set against picture-postcard scenery. You’ll also be treated to delicious festive fayre and a gift shop brimming with goodies for even the fussiest family member. So when you’re sick of the sales and tired of the telly, why not take a walk among the wildlife, relax next to panoramic wetland views in our restaurant, and breathe in the fresh air as you walk through stunning scenery. There’s always something to see and do at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, and we’re open everyday except Christmas Day. Nick Brooks from WWT Martin Mere said: “The festive season is a magical time. We have festive food, grottos and animal encounters, but it’s the thousands of birds and the picture-perfect winter scenery that make the day extra special. A visit to a Wetland Centre is great for a festive season outing, for some gentle exercise and change of scenery once you’re tired of TV and Christmas pudding!” WWT Wetland Centres are easy, safe places to enjoy the wonders of wetland wildlife. WWT offers nine different Wetland Centre experiences in the UK where adults and children can have close encounters with some of the world’s most dramatic and rare birds, surrounded by stunning scenery. And it’s not just birds – some centres are home to mammals, reptiles and creepy crawlies too! Like all nine WWT Wetland Centres, Martin Mere is fully accessible, has comfortable hides, buggy and wheelchair friendly pathways, a fully stocked cafe and gift shop and disabled and parent & baby facilities. Entry to WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is £11.80 per adult, or £31.60 for a family. Our Wetland Centres are part of our conservation charity work to save wetlands for wildlife and people. So a fun and relaxing experience for you is just as much a part of our work as saving threatened species and habitats in the UK and around the world. WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am to 4.30pm during winter months and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
