Cllr Maureen Fearn officially installed as the new Mayor of Sefton 2013

Cllr Maureen Fearn was officially installed as the new Mayor of Sefton last night (Thursday, May 9).

Cllr Fearn and her consort, Frank Winrow, will take over Mayoral duties from Cllrs Kevin and Linda Cluskey who were Mayor and Mayoress during 2012/13.

Cllr Fearn was sworn in at a special council meeting at Southport Town Hall and it is the third time she has been Mayor of the borough.

Cllr Maureen Fearn was born, and has lived all her life in Southport and went to St. Simon’s Primary and Meols Cop High Schools

An employee at British Telecom for the whole of her working life, Maureen retired as Chief Supervisor at the Southport Telephone Exchange in 1986 and was made an Honorary Member of the Communications Management Association

Maureen was first elected to Southport Town Council in 1971, where she served until local government reorganisation in 1974. Mrs. Fearn then stood for election to the Kew Ward in 1983 and has been a local councillor since.

In her spare time, Maureen has been an instructor and is a past member of the League of Heath & Beauty, a league badminton player, a keen golfer and is a member of Hesketh Golf Club in Southport

She was a founder member of the All Souls’ Dramatic Club, a past Secretary of the Diocesan Young Wives, past Treasurer of the All Souls’ Young Wives, a past Secretary of the Peacehaven Committee and a past President of Southport Inner Wheel and Southport Soroptimists.

Cllr Maureen Fearn said: “I am absolutely delighted to be asked to be Mayor of Sefton again and I look forward to meeting so many people and organisations in the borough and beyond.

“Sefton is a wonderful place to live, work and visit and I look forward to the challenge ahead in representing the borough in many different capacities.

“My best wishes also go to the outgoing Mayor and Mayoress, Cllrs Kevin and Linda Cluskey who have had a wonderful year.”

Frank Winrow was born in and is a resident of Southport. He was educated at Linaker Street and King George V Grammar Schools. He is a widower with two sons and four grandchildren.

Mr Winrow worked for 30 years as an Inspector of Taxes during which he was elected to the National Executive Committee of the Inland Revenue Staff Federation becoming its National President 1986/88 and a Full Time Official of the Union from 1989 until 1995. He was elected as a Distinguished Life Member of the Union in 1996.

He was a football referee for 20 years and is a lifelong supporter, shareholder and season ticket holder at Southport Football Club. He played badminton and tennis in the local leagues and is now a playing member of Hesketh Golf Club.
