For the third time during nearly 30 years in local politics, Cllr Kevin Cluskey has been officially installed as the new Mayor of Sefton.

The Ford ward councillor has taken over Mayoral duties from Cllr Maureen Fearn who was Mayor during 2013/14.

At a recent special council meeting held last night (May 29) at Bootle Town Hall, Cllr Cluskey was officially sworn in as Mayor and this was followed by an annual civic dinner at the Park Hotel, Netherton.

Cllr Kevin Cluskey was first elected to the Litherland ward in 1986 and following boundary changes now represents Ford.

He was born in Litherland and was educated at St Elizabeth of Hungary and English Martyr’s school, and St Mary’s College.

After completing more than 3½ years service in the Royal Air Force, he began a 28 year career in the general construction, civil engineering, shop fitting and boat building sectors of industry. Kevin married Linda in 1966 and they have two children.

In his spare time Cllr Cluskey follows most sports but has a special interest in football and cycle racing. He follows the arts and appreciates all musical tastes but has a special interest in Jazz. He enjoys photography, the cinema and attempts to play the guitar when he can!

On taking the role for the third time, Cllr Kevin Cluskey said: “I know I have been in this position before, but it really is a great honour to represent Sefton as Mayor on a local, regional and national level.

“My wife and I are really looking forward to the forthcoming Mayoral year and the chance to meet many different people from so many different walks of life.

“I am really proud of the borough and hope to relay this at the many functions I will attend.

“I would also like to thank Cllr Maureen Fearn as outgoing Mayor and hope my Mayoral year is as busy and successful as hers.”

Linda Cluskey was born in Birmingham and moved to Bootle as a child. She was educated at St Joan’s Junior School and later St Wilfrid’s High School, Litherland.

She was elected to represent Litherland ward from 1992 until the boundary changes in 2000 and was later elected in 2010 for the Derby ward where she stood down in 2014.
