Cherry Tree Lodge Cheque Presentation to Sea Cadets July 1st, 2012 admin Latest News Shares Comments Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Garden Party And Fund Raiser For Southport Sea Cadets On the Saturday 30 th of Jun. 2012 the Southport Sea Cadets returned to Cherry Tree Lodge to be presented with monies raised at the home’s Diamond Jubilee Garden Party which had been held on the 2 nd of June 2012. It had been decided by Gordon Ferguson, owner and registered manager of CTL that all funds raised at the garden party would go toward helping the Sea Cadets to buy two new boats that they need for training on the Marine Lake in Southport. He strongly believes that everyone should be doing more to support, not only the Sea Cadets but all youth groups in our area and hopes that other businesses will come on board. The presentation was made by the most senior resident living in Cherry Tree Lodge, Mrs. May Giddman aged 101, affectionately known in the home as Auntie May, and it was a fantastic surprise for her and everyone, that the first of the new boats will be named after her. MAY 101 When she was given the news she said “That will be very flattering” The £676 raised was received by the very youngest Sea Cadet Rebecca aged 12 who was accompanied by Petty Officer Mr. Tim Petford and other members of the Sea Cadets. This was very much a case of the older generation, lending a helping hand down through the years, to the younger generation. Many people helped to create this successful outcome, residents, staff, their friends and relations, many of the residents of Sandown Court Flats and not forgetting the suppliers to Cherry Tree Lodge for their gifts and donations. They were Flooring UK, Forster Organic Meat, Wesley Fish, Mikes News, Horizon Cleaning Company, Hirschman’s Chemist and MANIC ORGANIC VEG. We could not have done it without all of you. Thank you so much. My understanding is that, with our donation, added to what they have already raised, the Sea Cadets have about two thirds of the cost toward the first boat, so still have a long way to go. It was a wonderful sight to see them so smartly turned out, and having many aims and ambitions. Southport Sea Cadets take on new members from the 1 st of July.
