Southport Service to mark a Centenary of the Battle of the Somme July 9th, 2016 steve c Latest News Latest Whats On Shares Comments Southport Service to mark a Centenary of the Battle of the Somme In conjunction with the service, there is also a Somme 100 Remembrance display by Julie Gladwin with information about the battle, poems, local casualties, where some of the information is provided by The Royal British Legion and will be on display in the church. Drawings by local artist Tony Bramham which depicts Southport’s six VC s and includes Noel Chavasse and Wilfred Owens and also a collage of WW1 Items. There will be a British Legion presence and will include a Piper and a Bugler. All are Welcome please do come along and show us your support, and most importantly to remember that these men and women left all that they had and was dear to them, so that we can live our lives freely today.
