CAMRA EMAIL TO COUNCIL OVER PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMISSION: PLOUGH HOTEL SOUTHPORT August 2nd, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments To: Sefton Council Planning Dept. Dear Mrs Fass, I am contacting you on behalf of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) Southport & West Lancashire Branch. We in CAMRA are very concerned about the loss of pubs in the UK, and recently 18 pubs per week have been closing. The proposed application for the Plough Hotel at Rufford Road Crossens also gives some concern, as the pub will be demolished and a number of private dwellings will replace it. The pub is a well-established building with a strong support close by, and will be another community asset lost to the public, following closely upon the recent closure of the London Hotel in Southport, and a number also in neighbouring West Lancashire. We are aware of the National Planning Policy Framework and the Localism proposals, and we feel that the closure of the Plough goes against some of the proposals contained within those policies. CAMRA is a strong supporter of our traditional pubs and real cask conditioned beers, and we think that the application should be rejected, and the pub offered for sale on a genuine free market at a sensible price, thus giving an individual licensee a chance to re-establish and make a success of the pub business. We are therefore objecting to the planning application, and I attach herewith our submission covering this which we understand will be made public. I am sending copies to the local councillors in the hope that may be able to help in this matter. I should appreciate an acknowledgement that you have received this communication and I am also copying the Planning Dept and logging the details onto the council website page covering the details. I thank you. Mike Perkins Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
