Southport & West Lancs CAMRA will be providing a Real Ale Bar, with 15 beers plus cider at the forthcoming Southport Jazz Festival in the newly refurbished Atkinson Centre.  This will take place from 10-12th May, and the bar, which itself has no admittance fee, will be situated in the Cambridge Theatre Bar area.  Sadly the beers will not be free!

Whether or not you’re a jazz afficionado please do try our great cask beers – the Bar Opening Times are from 12 noon to 11 pm each day.  You don’t have to be a CAMRA member to enjoy the beers, which come generally from some quality micro-breweries.

Note also that CAMRA will also be making a presentation to the Freshfield in Formby, as it was voted our Pub of the Year in this branch area, and will take its place in the national POTY competition.  The award will be made at 9 pm on Wednesday 1st May.  There are 14 real ales at this pub – do try to attend!

And on a sad note to finish, Sefton Councillors at their Planning Committee last Wednesday signed the death warrant for the London Hotel in Southport when they voted to replace this old community pub from 1866 with a new housing development.  The pub is now due to close on 1st May.
