Poppy Club is an outreach service made available by Byng House, The Royal British Legion to our local Veterans, their dependant or carer. Not only is Poppy Club a way of connecting you to your local Poppy Break centre but it is also a way of reducing isolation and connecting with those who have a Service background, whether or not they have been in the Armed Forces themselves.

On Tuesday afternoons from January to July we meet once a week and from September to December we meet once a month from 2pm until 4pm. We also provide a range of activities including film afternoons, entertainers, speakers from local organisations such as Age UK, Age Concern and also larger organisations such as Combat Stress. We have also previously had afternoons with local artists such as Roy Munday who will teach workshops and develop new skills or re-establish old hobbies. We also work closely with Sefton Opera who have previously helped us by hosting Chair Based exercise, which is great fun for people of all ages.

Am I Eligible to Join

Whether you are a serving or non-serving Armed Forces person you are immediately eligible for Poppy Club membership. If you’re husband or wife were in the British Armed Forces and you are a widower you are also eligible as are carers of those who were or are in the British Armed Forces. Also, those that were in a common law relationship with somebody in the British Armed Forces but have since seperated or divorced are also eligible to join Poppy Club.

Poppy Club is £7.50 annually to join but you will also receive the Friends of Byng House newsletter which will keep you in touch with all of our staff at Byng House but also keep you informed of all of our events taking place.

We will be hosting our first Poppy Club meeting in September on Tuesday 24th at 2pm where we will be holding our Tea and Scones Afternoon. This is a great way of being introduced to the Poppy Club host and Byng House Activities Coordinator Rachel Kennedy, but also to find out more information on future Poppy Club meetings, eligibility for membership and any other information about Poppy Club.
