Bumper half term fun at Ainsdale beach

22nd January 2017

A Super week of beach related fun has been planned by Sefton Council for children on Ainsdale beach.

Starting on Sunday February 5, rangers from the sefton coastal team will be hold a Sea Shell Search at the Ainsdale Discovery Centre from 2-3.30pm where young and old can take part in a short walk on the beach, collecting their favourite shells to take back to the Discovery Centre and create special sea-shell creatures.

They say “In half-term week proper we embark on a Petalwort Safari, meeting at Ainsdale Discovery Centre at 11am on February 11.

“Don’t miss the hunt for one of the hardest to find residents of the Sefton coast – the Petalwort, barely two millimetres wide and one of the dune system’s most protected species.

“Warm clothing, stout footwear and waterproofs are essential in the hunt for this elusive quarry!

“Romance is appropriately in the air on Valentines Day, it’s time for ‘Love on the Coast’, our coastal Valentine’s Day event. Follow the trail and find the happy couples of the natural world here on the coast.

“This event runs from 2-3.30pm, at Sands Lake, Ainsdale.

“Then on Wednesday, February 15, the “Nesting Necessities” event from 2-3.30pm at Ainsdale Discovery Centre gives families the chance to create an artificial nest that wild birds can pinch to make their own nests as spring approaches.

“Why not follow the sheep trail through the sandhills finding and solving clues on Saturday, February 18th for a family fun event to discover more about the fantastic woolly grazers mowing the dunes.

“This event will start at Ainsdale Discovery Centre at 2pm and be open until 3.30pm.

“In the event of bad weather, we’ll try our hand at sheep related crafts at Ainsdale Discovery Centre.”
