Local Lib Dem councillors are playing Santa to hundreds of Southport traders who say their Christmas trade has been ‘sleighed’ by the Scrooges of Sefton.
The Lib Dems are in negotiations with Sefton Cabinet Members to reverse part of the Council’s secret surprise cancellation of the three weeks free Christmas parking.
Town Centre Councillor Tony Dawson says:
“This is a highly delicate operation. The same Bootle Labour councillors who let the free parking disappear now have to be persuaded to let it come back again. And all 21 Southport Councillors have to agree to allocate £11500 to pay the council for lost parking revenue. It’s a tricky task but we have put some of our best negotiators on it and I believe the Conservatives will tag along.”
“The Lib Dems know how important Christmas is for the town’s trade and the benefit of thousands of residents, too. An announcement is expected shortly.”
