Paul Carden describes Bank Holiday Monday as “as must win game.” The Port boss also stresses that his new look Port squad are better than the current return of one point out of six matches. “We all need to stick together on and off the pitch. I will get the players going from the kick off Monday.”

Southport take on Altrincham at the Merseyrail Community Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday kick off 3pm. After collecting just one point out of the first six Vanarama National League fixtures the Port squad and management need everyones support on Monday to kick start their season.

Altrincham arrive at the Merseyrail Community Stadium boosted by their 2-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers courtesy of goals from George Bowerman and Michael Rankine.

Lee Sinnott’s squad are 17th in the table having lost all three of their away matches scoring one goal and conceding five.

Paul Carden will be without the two Port players who both picked up late red cards at Barrow. Midfielder Andrai Jones received his second red in three Port appearances and now serves a four match ban while Josh Thompson is suspended for three matches. Adam Blakeman suffered a painful first minute hand injury at Barrow. He went for x rays after the match and will be under treatment over the weekend.

The good news is the Port’s only goal scorer so far this season Louis Almond may return having recovered from a hamstring strain faster than first anticipated.
