Bogus callers operating in Southport

Residents in the borough are being warned of bogus cold callers claiming to be from Sefton Council.

The callers ask residents if they have recently been involved in accident and attempt to offer insurance services.

Trading Standards officers are asking residents to be on their guard and to not deal with the cold callers, who are not employed by the council and may be offering bogus services.

A Sefton Council spokesman said: “We can safely say these callers are not Sefton Council employees.

“Officers do not phone residents out of the blue and do not deal with personnel injury claims such as this.

“We are advising residents to be on their guard. Residents are also recommended to ask for proof of identity before allowing any official into their home. Council Officers, like gas, water and electricity officials, all carry identity cards.

“We are very concerned about the identity of these people and if anyone else has been contacted by such callers we would like to hear from them.”
