Blog 1: Art For Macmillan with Daniel Adler

6th October 2015

By: Anton Dolders, Regional Chair of Arts at Macmillan Cancer Support

Saturday afternoons in Cambridge Walks is the setting for fundraising art and craft demonstrations in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support:  Saturday 3rd October featured a painting demonstration by a native of Southport, Daniel Adler who has a condition called Asperger’s Syndrome, which is a form of autism.

Daniel stated: “A lot of people think I suffer from Asperger’s Syndrome but I actually benefit from it.  It provides me the ability to focus on painting the areas of precise detail present in my work.”

It is easy to understand what Daniel means when viewing the complexity of his artwork: the levels of concentration required for painting it’s detail is immense.  His work exemplifies a unique viewpoint involving symmetry and changes in scale which create an overall visual flow and perceptive challenge.

Daniel is a lifelong artist whose interest in creativity commenced in school.  When asked what inspires his compositions, he replied that he is particularly interested in Esher’s work involving optical illusions and impossible worlds but that most of the time, ideas just pop into his head. Daniel currently has four pieces of work hanging in Cambridge Walks Gallery and he will be back to do another painting demo on Saturday 7th November.

The next demonstration event in Cambridge Walks is on Saturday 10th October  from 11am to 4pm and will feature the wild abstract techniques of  Walter Fairclough and water colour painting by John West.  For full details regarding Art For Macmillan’s activities and exhibitions look online: www.artformacmillancancersupport.co.uk.
