Birkdale and Ainsdale U3A July 25th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Birkdale and Ainsdale U3A. The Birkdale and Ainsdale U3A is a group aimed at the retired and semi retired of both sexes and meets at Saint Peter’s Church, Saint Peters road Birkdale on the forth Thursday of most months, at 2-0pm for its monthly meeting. The group normally has a guest speaker at these meetings on subjects varying from the sinking of the Herald of free Enterprise to being visited by a Viking in full battle dress. Today, (25th of July,) we were treated to an interesting insight into the charity industry by Roger Blaxall. He explained just how groups go about raising hard earned money, and how there was now over 500 000 registered charities in the UK, all vying for that Pound in our pockets. Roger himself helped raise money for Jospice, which needs, like Queens court in Southport, a never ending stream of money to carry on their good works in helping people as they approach the end of their lives. He touched on (With humour) some of the many things people do keep the money flowing to both these and other charities (Why anybody would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane I will never know.) Roger also gave us some figures of how much some of the charities have in their bank accounts, and most of us were surprised. The group has no meeting in August, but we welcome everybody to attend our Come meet and greet meeting on the 26th of September, when you can find out more about us. Members of the groups take part in things like book reading Creative Writing, Bridge Discussion gardening Tai Chi, do visits and many other things. So rather than sit at home staring at the TV, come along and see what we are all about. After all, what have you got to lose? Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
