Merseyside Police is investigating after a man was seriously assaulted in the Sefton area last (Thursday, 29 May)

The 45-year-old from Warrington was in a silver Ford Transit van in Jubilee Road in Crosby when his vehicle was driven at by several men in a white BMW.

The men then got out of their vehicle and assaulted him, resulting in the victim receiving several deep lacerations to his head, upper body and legs.

Detectives believe the injuries are consistent with a large knife and that the attack was targeted.

The victim’s attackers then left the area and he sought help in a nearby pub – The Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called and the victim was taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Detectives are investigating the motive for the assault and who the people are who are responsible.

Extensive enquiries are being carried out in the area and both a section of Jubilee Road and the pub have been cordoned off for forensic examination.

Two vehicles have also been recovered by officers and will be examined. A Transit van was found abandoned in Coronation Road and a white BMW was found in nearby Netherton.

Detective Inspector Rob Hill from Sefton CID said:

“We believe this was a targeted attack against this man and one of our many lines of enquiry is to establish how he came to be in this area tonight. We believe he was attacked by at least three other men who used their car to damage his van before attacking him with a large knife or other sharp weapon. A large scale investigation is underway to find his attackers and bring them to justice. This man has suffered extremely serious, but thankfully not life-threatening, injuries and we are doing everything possible to catch the people responsible.

“Attacks like this are rare in this area and local people will be understandably worried. I would like to reassure the community that we are treating this as a targeted attack and not a random incident.

“I would urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in Jubilee Road at around 8pm tonight to please call Sefton CID on 0151 777 3059 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
