British Transport Police is appealing to anyone who witnessed a fight that broke out on a train at Preston station to come forward to help officers with their enquiries.

The incident happened just after 11.30pm on Saturday, 23 May, as the train, which was travelling from Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria, arrived at Preston.

Investigating officer PC Adam Heslop said: “Following a verbal altercation on board the service, one man left the train to speak to a member of station staff. As he walked along the platform he headbutted the train window, where the other man was sitting, before boarding the train again.

“Both men sustained injuries in the violence that ensued.”

A 30-year-old man from Chorley and a 26-year-old man from Blackburn have been arrested, interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries.

PC Heslop added: “This was a busy service and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B12 of 27/05/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
