Tragic News – Southport gran caused the death of her husband by falling asleep at the wheel while driving.

Angela Bulteel(72) was arrested following the death of husbandTony Bulteel(86) who died two days after a crash on Cambridge Road, Southport, in February.

Tony Bulteel suffered broken ribs and a broken sternum in the smash caused by his seat belt, this led to a chest infection from which he died on February 25.

Angela Bulteel, of Poolside Walk, Southport, was arrested and interviewed and said she had swerved to avoid an oncoming car but a witnesses said the road had been clear.

Angela Bultel later pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

Judge Clement Goldstone, sentenced  Angela Bultel to a nine month community order with no requirements and barred her from driving for 12 months.


Merseyside Police can confirm officers from the MSOC Collision Investigation Team are appealing for information after a man died following an RTC that occurred in Southport on Sunday, 23 February.

Emergency services were called at about 4.50pm to Cambridge Road to a report a black Kia Picanto had been in collision with a lampost after leaving the carriageway.

An 86-year-old male passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment by paramedics.

The female driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 70s, was uninjured but left shaken following her ordeal.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them as they may information that could assist with their investigation into the collision.

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

Merseyside Police has named a man who died following a road traffic collision in Southport on Sunday, 23 February as Anthony Bulteel, 86-years-old, from Albert Road in the town.
Officers from Matrix Serious Organised Crime, Roads Policing Unit are continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Sergeant Jason Higham said: “We still need to speak to people who witnessed the collision, which happened at around 4.50pm on Cambridge Road.
“In particular, we believe a car, which was behind the black Kia Picanto just before it collided with the lamppost, stopped at the scene.
“A woman who was driving the car is thought to have got out and spoken to people but she left the area before officers arrived.
“This woman may have vital information about the collision which could help with our investigation and I would appeal to her to get in touch with us.
“I would also urge anyone else with information about the incident to pick up the phone and speak to one of our officers.”
