Appeal after woman is sexually assaulted in Formby near Southport

POLICE are appealing for information after a 19 year old woman was sexually assaulted as she walked down a country lane in Formby on New Year’s Eve.

The offence took place around 6.30pm when the woman, who is from Southport, was walking along Lord Sefton Way in Great Altcar to a friends house when a man has grabbed hold of her by her jacket causing her to fall over

The man has pinned her to the floor where he has fondled and groped her over her clothing before she has managed to fight him off and flee to her friend’s house.

DC Paul Mulrooney from Southern CID said: “This is clearly a very disturbing incident which left the young woman incredibly traumatised. Our investigation is continuing to try and catch the man responsible but we need the public’s help.

“Although the incident has taken place in a very rural area, the victim does recall hearing vehicles driving along main road as she was being attacked so I would appeal to anybody with any information they think could assist us to call Lancashire Police on 101.

The offender is described as being around 30 years old, slim build with facial stubble and collar length dark brown hair which was swept across his head with a fringe. He had a think nose and bushy eyebrows and was wearing a black hoodie with blue oversized jeans and white trainers. He spoke with a local Formby accent.
