Appeal after Christmas Day assault

POLICE are appealing for information after a man was the victim of an unprovoked assault in the early hours of Christmas Day.

At around 2:10am, the 34 year old victim was walking along Burscough Street in Ormskirk following a night out. As he approached the junction with Scarisbrick Street he was approached by a man who, without provocation, punched him in the face several times.

PC Ian Fisher said: “This was a nasty attack which was completely unprovoked and so I am very keen to speak to anyone who could help us to trace the person responsible.

“We believe there was a young couple who may have witnessed what happened and so we would appeal to that couple, if that was you and you saw what happened, please get in touch. There was also a group of three people stood by Ormskirk paint and DIY store that may also have seen the assault take place – if that was you, please give us a call

“Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log reference LC-20131225-0124.”

The offender is described as a white, aged in his 20’s, around 5 feet 8 inches tall and of medium build. He had blond-light brown short hair and was wearing a dark shirt and dark jeans.
