Appeal after attempted robbery in Burscough

OFFICERS are appealing for information after a woman was the victim of an attempted robbery as she walked through Burscough.

At around 5:40pm on Saturday 31st August, the 61 year old woman was walking along Junction Lane when she was approached from behind by a man who attempted to snatch her handbag from her shoulder.

The woman was able to keep hold of her handbag and hit the man with another shopping bag that she was carrying causing her to fall but the man then ran from the scene empty handed.

DC Paul Mulrooney said, “This happened in broad daylight when there would have been plenty of people around and so I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything to come forward and contact us.”

The offender has been described as white, around five feet nine inches tall of medium build and between 17 – 20 years old. He was wearing navy blue shorts, a blue hooded top and trainers.
