For the second year running organisers have failed to prevent fires starting in the sand dunes behind the Vicoria Park venue, Sunday 4 October 2015.

Witness Kerry said”

“The sand dunes blaze was happening and police motorcyclists were just sat there chatting to people whilst cars drove past and two young men appeared from the dunes and started stamping on the flames.

They put out half the fire and then got a branch and used that to put the rest out. When they had made sure it was out they just disappeared back into the dunes. Then the fire engines turned up , got their hoses out to wet the area.

It was only when the fire engines turned up and the public had already put the fire out that the police moved to shut the road”.

Last year (Saturday 5th October 2014) ‘hot debris’ caused a large fire in the sand dunes close to the Eco centre,  Victoria Park and the Caravan Park a large devastating dunes fire was caused by the Sefton Council Musical Fireworks event. Fortunately, the swift actions by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service prevented the dunes inferno from spreading further afield.
