A male driver has been airlifted to hospital after a car overturned on Wyke Lane in Southport.

Firefighters on the scene cut the driver free from the vehicle

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Fire services were called at 8.06am on Thursday.

“They found a car on its side in a ditch. They stabilised the vehicle and used cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car to free the man and help paramedics at the scene.

“Two fire appliances from Southport Community Fire Station and The Search and Rescue Team also attended the call-out. Firefighters had left the scene by 9.32am.”

Lancashire Police confirmed the car involved was a red Mitsubishi Shogun, which is reported to have only had one person inside.
