Abacus Scaffolding owner charged over death of man who fell from scaffolding in Southport

Rickie Lake, 47, appeared in Sefton Magistrates’ Court today following the death of Steven Weedon on March 26 last year.

Mr Weedon, 34, fell from height at a construction site in Park Road West, Southport, according to the Health and Safety Executive.

Lake is charged with health and safety breaches relating to his duty to ensure the proper installation of scaffolding.

Lake, of Thornton Gate, Thornton-Cleveleys, faces one charge as an individual and a second, identical, charge as a company director.

He entered no plea to the charge.

Another man has already appeared in court charged with manslaughter in relation to Mr Weedon’s death.

Both men will appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on September 21.
