A popular Ainsdale restaurant will shut later this month.

Des and Maria McElroy launched Six30 Bar and Bistro on Liverpool Road in 2011 but now after five years have announced their impending retirement at the end of January, and while they say there are talks to take over the site by prospective lease holders, the future of the building is currently uncertain.

Left to become run down and derelict after it was abandoned by the Ainsdale Conservative Club, the Liverpool Road building was transformed by the couple into  a special bar and bistro, quickly becoming popular with many local residents and food lovers across North Sefton.

However they have now made the decision to retire and instead lease the building out.

Des said: “When we purchased the Ainsdale Conservative Club in 2011 we set out on a five year plan to convert a derelict building in to a quality, fresh food bistro and to establish it as a credible eating-out venue in Ainsdale.

“Five years on we believe that we have achieved what we set out to do and we now feel it is time to move on to do other things and to let someone new pick up the reigns and take the business forward.

“Therefore we have decided to retire at the end of January.

“We are currently in discussions with a number of people to take a lease on the property and we are confident that a new restaurant will emerge in the not too distant future.

“Maria and I would both like to express our sincere thanks to all of our customers who have given us their loyal support and also their friendship during the past 5 years and we hope that you will continue to give your patronage to Ainsdale and in particular to the wonderful, independent restaurants in the village.
