£900k upgrade for Warrington motorway bridges

A £900,000 project to upgrade two motorway bridges which link the M62 to the M6 near Warrington is due to start on Thursday 24 September.

Contractors for Highways England need to close two slip roads overnight at the junction, known at Croft Interchange, for around three months while essential work takes place to replace the safety barriers and install new lights.

The closures will affect the westbound exit slip road from junction 10 of the M62 onto the northbound M6 at junction 21a along with the eastbound exit slip road from the M62 onto the southbound M6.

The slip roads will be closed between 8pm and 6am, with diversions taking drivers to the next junction to turn around. A 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes will also be in place on the slip roads at other times of day.

Mark Mosley, Project Manager at Highways England, said:
“This is essential work which will ensure the bridges remain in good shape for many years to come.

“We’re only closing the slip roads overnight when the traffic levels are at their lowest, and drivers will notice upgraded safety barriers as well as new lights on the slip roads when the project is completed.”

The scheme to upgrade the two slip roads is due to be completed by the end of December.
