A 80-year-old Southport lady was the victim of bag dipping incident on Lord Street, Monday 21 March 2016.

The lady’s daughter now wants to warn residents, particularly the elderly following this incident.

She said: “My 80-year-old mother was the victim of a bag snatch on Monday 21 March, she drew out her pension from the Post Office on the North end of Lord Street. She placed the money in her bag which she then placed in her shopping trolley and closed the lid.

“My mother then visited several charity shops on Lord Street but did not buy anything therefore she did not remove her bag.

“She ended up in Rich’s coffee shop where she discovered her bag had been stolen. It seems likely, given the fact that her bag was not on display, that someone had seen her actions in the Post Office and followed her, waited until her back was turned and then robbed her.

“Fortunately the bag was later found but all her money, some £400 in total had gone.

“I just want people, particularly the elderly to be aware as I am sure this will not have been the first time someone has been robbed in this way and it most certainly not be the last.”

Anyone with information about yesterdays incident should call police on 101 of Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 111 555.
