A court heard that Kevin Birch had gone to the couple’s home after they had all been out drinking. Birch fell asleep but then went upstairs and climbed into bed with the sleeping couple.

Birch, from Alma Walk, Up Holland, Skelmersdale, admitted he was wrong to get in the couples bed but he denied any sexual assault charges. The incident happened last November. In the end a jury at Liverpool Crown Court convicted him in just over an hour.

Jailing him Judge Andrew Hatton told him that Birch knew the reality was that he did not have consent to sexually abuse the woman. “You had got in to their bed uninvited and you have acknowledged throughout the trial it was wrong to do so.”

Paul Wood, defending, said that Birch has no previous convictions and is a hard working hgv driver.
