£25,000 unpaid fine for Blue Elephant Scarisbrick for hiring illegal immigrants

The Blue Elephant in Scarisbrick, Southport, is among a number of Merseyside businesses owing thousands of pounds in unpaid fines for hiring illegal immigrants.

In total the businesses across Merseyside have left a trail of unpaid fines worth more than £350,000.

The companies appeared on a Home Office list of shame for failing to cough up after being caught by the authorities.

Businesses can be fined up to £10,000 for employing an illegal immigrant and are usually given 28 days to pay.

But the Home Office regularly names and shames those firms that have not coughed up within the agreed time and have exhausted all their appeal rights.

The fines are not necessarily still unpaid, but the money was owed at the time the lists were published by the Home Office.

Riverallied Ltd, the firm behind the Blue Elephant in Scarisbrick, owed £25,000 over the same period.
