Craven Minor JFL Match Reports Week Ending  13th October 2013

Under 10 – Redgate White 0 Formby JSC White 1

This local Derby between Redgate Rovers White and Formby JSC Whites was as as good a match as any Merseyside Derby.

The crowd was large but the two sets of supporters shared the same touchline but not necessarily the views on the decisions made.

The game had everything; fiesty tackles, great passing, great goal keeping, missed chances and the single goal that was always going to separate these two great teams.

The first half kicked off with both teams looking very nervous and it was Redgate who started the stronger. They were winning the 50/50 balls and carved out a few early chances but Formby keeper Toby Gladwin, was not going to be beaten. This season Toby has stepped things up and at present looks unbeatable.

In the last 15mins of the first half Formby started winning the indiviual battles and started passing the ball with Jack Lemmens, Harry Forsyth and Danny Lamb combining on two or three occasions, but they couldn’t get past Ethan Connell in the the Redgate goal.

The referee blew up for half time with the score 0-0 and both teams had produced some great football.

The second half was like a game of tennis, with both teams doing everything to score, but both the Redgate defence and Joe Blanchard and Nic Abbott in the Formby defence were determined to keep the opposition at bay.

Midway through the second half fatigue started to tell and Formby started to create chances, Kieran Hall and Harry Forsyth both had a half chances cleared, Jack Lemmens hit two snap shots that just missed the corner of the goal and Danny Lamb had a great volley turned over the bar by the Redgate keeper.

The extra of pressure Formby were putting Redgate under eventually paid off when Dan Griffin and the brilliant Ben Williams combined passes and Ben hit a shot from the edge of the box, that took a slight deflection and flew into the top corner. 1-0 to Formby and six minutes to go.

Redgate threw everything at Formby, but Formby defended for their lives and had the calming influence of Toby Gladwin in goal.

On the break, Formby could have scored another, but could not convert the chance. Every team member was outstanding today, and the work ethic and effort put in by them was tremendous.

Joe Blanchard, Jack Lemmens and Ben Williams were all colossal today right through the middle of the Formby team.

A special mention to referee Shaun Aindow, who controlled the game brilliantly, even with 10,000 other referees on the line.

Today was a great advertisement for Formby football and also a great advertisement for the Craven Minor League Under 10 Eagles Division. The standard of football produced by all the teams is exceptional. Every team in this league can beat each other which makes it so interesting.

Under 13 – Hesketh Colts 1 Marina Sands 7

Marina Sands  Lions played some great football, passing the ball on the floor to great effect.

It is true that the opposition was missing some players but take nothing away from this display.

Isaac Hannigan opened the scoring with the first of his two goals.

Tom Kayll scored the goal of the game late in the second half with an unstoppable pile driver from a tight angle. It is great to see that the goals coming from all areas across the team Ben Windsor converting a penalty, Tom Ashcroft, Jack Mac and Conor Seddon providing the others. Even Jordan Irons, obviously suffering from some strange affliction, found himself in the opposition box and saw his pile driver tipped round the post by the excellent Hesketh keeper.

MoM was awarded to the exceptional Tom Kayll who just keeps getting better and better.
